Figure 3.2.3 – Upstream avoidance principle. Iterative loops for the implementation of upstream avoidance starts with an initial project. Then different alternatives (1 and 2 in the figure) are evaluated in terms of impact they may have on biodiversity and debated to propose a revised project. This document will undergo a new iteration of avoidance to evaluate new alternatives. Such loops are iterated until the revised project avoids as much as possible impacts on biodiversity and a final alternative is selected.
